It's 8 am on Friday in Hamburg, and I'm sitting on an small spring mattress scrolling through my Facebook news feed with wet hair, because I can't figure out how to make this hotel hair dryer work. As I view posts, read messages, and laugh at my friends' turkey pictures, it now hits me that I missed Thanksgiving.
But I'm not upset. Not depressed. Not longing to jump on a plane to be there. Not even hungry (for now).
Instead, I'm thankful.
Thankful I have my family's support for making this journey.
Thankful I slept next to the radiator.
Thankful for mom, who said she'd make me pumpkin pie when I get back.
Thankful our taxi driver last night was a pro and Meghan can navigate busy train stations.
Thankful for iMessage and Facetime.
Thankful for my host family here in Germany and their overflowing unceasing kindness.
Thankful for all the ways the Lord has blessed me and watched over me on this trip.
So while It's black Friday in the States and people are knocking each other over to get the best deals on their Christmas presents, today in Hamburg will consist of me being in awe and pinching myself, expecting to wake up from a dream. In eleven days, I will fly back home to see my family. I'll wrap my arms around my saint of a mother and kiss my nieces and nephews as they ask where their presents are. But until then, I still have 10 days in an amazing place and I don't intend to miss a thing.
PS - Mom, don't worry... I won't go outside until my hair dries.
