Meghan and I arrived in Werne around 11 am local time. First, we went to the school, Anne Frank Gymnasium, where we met some of the teachers and our host families picked us up. I now have my class schedule and will report to school at 7:50 in the morning. It looks like I will be teaching English, and my host brother is in one of my classes. His mother loves this.
After driving about 5 minutes, my host mother, Simone, arrived at their house, where I have my very own room. She showed me around the house and then said one very important phrase that would cement my liking this family: "I hope you are not a vegetarian." I laughed and assured her that meat is not only delicious but essential to my life.
Simone then let me take a nap, which ultimately lasted for five hours. Oops.
I met her husband, Christian, and the children, Marvin and Anna, when they got home and we enjoyed time on the couch just laughing and talking. I showed them pictures of my family and we compared notes on Christmas trees.
At least Simone agrees with me that my sister puts up her Christmas tree too early.
