Yesterday was a good day. Don't get me wrong, every day in Germany has been pretty remarkable, but yesterday - oh, yesterday.
I got to school at the normal time, but I was not prepared to teach. Instead, I loaded a chartered bus with half of the 8th grade class from Anne Frank Gymnasium and I traveled to Cologne to visit the Schokoladenmuseum. For you to become as excited as I was about this, you should know that "shockoladen" is German for chocolates, and museum needs no translation.

Aside from the old school Lindt packaging, we learned about the history of chocolate production, tasted cocoa beans, saw a machine pour chocolate into candy molds, and ate some very smooth chocolate from a very nice gentleman (seen below).
It's safe to say I loved the chocolate museum. After buying presents for at least 11 people in the shop downstairs, I think it is safe to say it loved me, too.
Now, what is better than chocolate?
Be careful because there is a correct answer.

Don't let the dreary weather or my shaky photography skills fool you, this church is exquisite. The Cologne Cathedral took centuries to build due to funds running short in the 15th century. In fact, underneath it they found remains of a Roman temple. In World War II, the cathedral was hit 14 times by bombs and some cheap repairs were made, then fixed later on in the 1950s.
What a remarkable piece of architecture! As I walked through the church, I noticed so many different scenes. Some people were praying, several were taking pictures, and some were sitting quietly in pews looking around at the splendor of this building. It couldn't have been better if it was made out of chocolate.
